Jackie Viola - LCSW, RPT
My name is Jackie Viola. I was a therapist at Mandarin Counseling from 2007 until 2014. I left the practice to work with the military. However I am happy to announce that as of April 2016 I will be back at Mandarin Counseling part-time.
I have two children in elementary school which gives me first-hand knowledge of the joys and challenges of parenthood. One of my children has required some advocacy at school to make sure that academic needs are being met which has been a frustrating and a difficult battle despite the years of experience working within the school system. Being a parent is probably the hardest and most rewarding job I have ever had.
My passion is to advocate for children and help them work through the issues that life throws at us. We don’t have to let stress overtake us, however sometimes it takes time to find the right path. We must look within ourselves to find out what is causing stress in our lives and recognize any patterns that continue to create the stress in order to develop a plan of action. If these issues are addressed when we are younger, we can learn the appropriate coping skills that are needed throughout life.
The therapeutic process can be challenging as we are usually not wanting or ready to face our challenges head on. My approach has us working together to increase your support system as we tackle through the issues causing the most stress. Sometimes the process only takes a few sessions whereas other times it might take months to work through our issues. Everyone is unique and every situation is different. I would like to work with you to develop and implement a specific treatment plan that works for you.
I have over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents and families. I have dedicated the last few years working exclusively with military families on and off installations. I enjoy working with children and their parents as a team so that we can work through the issues together often by utilizing play therapy techniques. I have worked in a variety of settings including several school systems (preschool to High School) which can be beneficial in understanding the stressors that our children face on a daily basis.
